It would be useful if users can click on a build and add info publicly available to all others like "yeah I know it's broken, fix is coming" or "testing new build features, ignore". An icon can indicate if an annotation exists for a build and a user just has to browse over to see a popup with the text. This feature doesn't seem very difficult to implement and can be quite useful.

Hi Christian,

This does sound like an interesting feature, and is something that could possibly be extended in a number of directions.

- we could generate notifications for people when an 'annotation' is added to a build
- we could allow more than one person to annotate a build.

Actually, we might leave it at that, any further and we will be implementing a forums style solution within a build view :)

To be fair I've seen this idea first from the tinderbox project, eg (look for the stars):

http://tinderbox.mozilla.org/showbuilds.cgi?tree=Firefox&maxdate=1168713270&legend=0

You may want to be sure that the commit message transformer works for the notifications to redirect people to relevant checkins/issues.

I agree that having a forum attached to a build is pushing to idea a bit too far. If a build generates so much discussion it would be probably better for the stakeholders to simply call a good old meeting :-)

Once build annotation are available, being able to set it through personal builds would be a nice complement.

I find myself right now launching multiple personal builds to test different debug scenarios but need a sheet of paper around to keep track of what each build is testing.

Taking this idea a little further, allow a flat list of comments on build results, displayed prominently on the build's "summary" tab.

Implemented in change 7311.
